Part 6 – What is so special about Jesus?
Why does the Christian faith revolve around one Person?
There are thousands of religions and worldviews in the world.
There have been great thinkers.
Prophets.
Philosophers.
Spiritual teachers.
Why then do Christians say that Jesus is unique?
Why not Buddha?
Or Muhammad?
Or one of the many other religious leaders?
That is a fair question.
Because if Jesus is just one of many, then in the end it matters little who you follow.
But if He really is who He claimed to be…
then everything changes.
Jesus made statements that no one else did
Many people call Jesus a wise teacher.
He certainly was.
He spoke about love, forgiveness, and mercy like almost no one else.
But Jesus didn’t leave it at that.
He said things that no ordinary teacher would dare to say.
He said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
He didn’t say: “I show the way.”
He said: “I am the Way.”
That is a huge claim.
Who did Jesus claim to be?
Jesus didn’t just present Himself as a prophet.
Not just as an example.
He made it clear that He was much more.
He forgave sins.
He called God His Father in a unique way.
He accepted worship.
And ultimately, He even declared that He already existed before Abraham lived.
This was clear to His opponents.
That is why they wanted to kill Him.
Not because He was a good teacher.
But because He claimed to be God.
God came to us
That is perhaps the most extraordinary thing about the Christian faith.
Almost every religion tells how people try to reach God.
The Bible tells exactly the opposite.
God came to man.
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)
In Jesus, we see what God is really like.
He healed the sick.
He comforted people.
He gave hope to those whom no one else noticed.
He wept.
He forgave.
He even loved His enemies.
Whoever gets to know Jesus, gets to know God’s character at the same time.
Why did Jesus have to die?
That is perhaps the most difficult question.
If Jesus was so good…
why did His life end on a cross?
According to the Bible, His death was no accident.
He gave His life voluntarily.
He bore the consequences of our sin, so that the way to God could be opened again.
As John writes: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16)
The cross shows how far God’s love goes.
The resurrection makes the difference
Many people have died for their convictions.
But the Christian faith stands or falls with one event:
the resurrection of Jesus.
If Jesus really rose from the dead, then that confirms everything He said about Himself.
Jesus is the only religious Leader who announced His resurrection in advance and whose followers then proclaimed that He had truly risen from the dead. Historically, that is one of the most distinguishing features of the Christian faith!
Paul even writes that without the resurrection, the Christian faith would be meaningless.
The first Christians were willing to give their lives because they were convinced they had met the risen Jesus.
That changed the world.
Who is Jesus to you?
Maybe you admire Him.
Maybe you still have doubts.
Maybe you don’t really know what to think of Him.
That’s okay.
But ultimately, no one can remain neutral toward Jesus.
C.S. Lewis once wrote that Jesus was either a deceiver, a madman, or truly the Son of God.
According to Lewis, He cannot be an ordinary moral teacher, because His own statements went much too far for that.
So the question is not just:
“Who do others say Jesus is?”
The question is:
“Who do you think He is?”
An invitation
Maybe you have seen Jesus primarily as a historical figure until now.
But what if He is truly alive?
What if He knows you?
What if He is inviting you to get to know Him personally?
Maybe faith doesn’t start with all the answers.
Maybe it starts with one honest step:
“Jesus, if You really are who the Bible says You are… would You let Yourself be known to me too?”
